As with many stages of research, many directions are taken.
Some (or most) will never make it to the final release, but will still serve as a guide for the creation of other visuals.
The goal of this phase is to find the colors, shapes, and mood that best suit each song.
Visuals created for one song may prove more appropriate for another song, depending on feedback from the artist and their team.
